School Centered Services - The Future (Kieran Mcdermott)

2nd Nov 12

Increasingly, schools are looking to the market to commission the support they need and face the daunting challenge of finding good value and high quality services based on their requirements. Starting life as a local authority department, ONE Education is now an independent enterprise offering everything from finance to music education. Throughout its transformation, the organisation has worked with schools to develop school centred services that put children first. Chief Executive Kieran McDermott will share what that journey has taught him and give an insight into the future direction of commissioning and service provision for schools.

Kieran McDermott became CEO of One Education Ltd in 2011. He had previously worked for several local authorities as a teacher, Deputy Head and subsequently as a Head Teacher. Kieran left headship to take up a role in local authority school improvement, joining Manchester City Council in 2004. As Deputy Director of Children’s Services, with responsibility for Education, he led a systemic transformation of the local authority’s relationship with its schools.
