North East Women in School Leadership: Panel Debate

You are warmly invited to the first North East Women in School Leadership panel debate, hosted by Teach First, Ambition School Leadership & SCHOOLS NorthEast on Tuesday 24 January, 6 - 8pm at the National Glass Centre in Sunderland.

There is a significant shortage of women moving into senior leadership positions in our region's schools. This event will provide discussion, debate and an insight into this challenge.

Confirmed members of the panel include:

•  Linda Halbert, CEO of the Teesside Learning Trust and SCHOOLS NorthEast board member

•  Allie Denholm, Headteacher - South Shields School, Future Leader and Chair of the Teach First North East School Strategy Board

•  Mike Parker, Director of SCHOOLS NorthEast

•  Charlotte Pywell, Curriculum Leader & Associate SLT Member - Unity City Academy, 2013 ambassador & Teaching Leaders fellow

•  Nikki Gibb, Head of Academy at The Grangefield Academy

Teach First will be launching a mentoring scheme to support women at all levels following this event. By attending, you are not committing to become a mentee or mentor, but you can express your interest at the event. The mentoring scheme will be for all levels, from Executive Headship to ITT. This is open to all of the teaching community in the North East.

Throughout the evening, we will:

•  Address and discuss the challenges, barriers and opportunities women face in leadership in the North East

•  Hear from inspirational women who are current leaders in education about their experience and career path to date

•  Provide teachers and school leaders from across the region opportunities to network and establish connections

•  Launch a women in leadership mentoring scheme across the region
