"[Provide] a curriculum that has suitable breadth, depth and relevance so that it meets any relevant statutory requirements, as well as the needs and interests of children..."
(Ofsted Framework of Inspection, September 2015)

Key Learning Messages:

  • Creating a safe/comfortable environment away from the classroom to ensure learning can happen
  • Encouraging your pupils to 'see' what they are looking at
  • Allowing for individual responses to the museum/collections and knowing how to incorporate this back into your curriculum
  • Understanding the value of a prolonged engagement with a museum or gallery for you and your pupils

The activities throughout the day will encourage you to explore the museum as a learner. There will be a particular focus on the new Charge! gallery which tells the story of local cavalry regiments, their history and their role in world events. The key learning messages will be drawn out through each activity and time allocated to discuss how this relates to your own practice.

This is a very interactive session with a lot of time spent in the galleries.
