Social media is taking over!  It is everywhere – Twitter, Facebook, Blackberry Messaging, WhatsApp, Instagram, YouTube, etc. and plays a significant role in the lives of many of your children, parents, staff, governors, community, visitors and external agencies.  You cannot stop anyone from accessing it so you have to embrace the potential benefits it may bring and inform of the pitfalls.  However, if it is not controlled, social media can be the school’s worse nightmare i.e. Cyberbullying, homophobia bullying, extremism.
Controlling Social Media in schools training is an essential element of staff induction and part of their ongoing CPD programme.  It is also paramount that children and parents are educated.
Workshop content:
- What is social media?
- Types of social media: Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, WhatsApp, Instagram, YouTube, etc.
- How schools can deal with the issues surrounding social media
- Mobile devices: phone, laptop, desk top, iPad, play station, phone watch, recordable pens/other devices
- What does Ofsted say?
- Key issues: Cyberbullying, homophobia bullying, extremism
- How to educate parents
- Creating and maintaining a robust Social Media policy
- Knowing when and how to take disciplinary action
Learning objectives:
- To understand the impact of social media in your school
- To be able to control, manage and embrace social media positively
- To recognise the importance of having robust Social Media policies and procedures in your school
- To be able to engage with parents on social media issues
- To identify best practices to implement within your school
