Challenge Day

Possibly our most successful outreach work with schools has been our Challenge Days. From
Y1 to Y9, Astana to Eston, we have welcomed students from all across the globe to take part
in a challenge to produce a piece of work in a day with no prior information. The aim is to
simulate a ‘project in a day’ situation that many people face day to day in a real workplace.
Participating classes receive an email at 9am (local time) to issue the challenge. The day is
then focussed on each class handing in work at 3pm (I’m not strict!) to show what they have
done. It has been phenomenally successful but the real strength has been recording the
activity during the day. Each challenge creates a new webpage on our website and as children
are working teachers post pictures and comments about their progress. This is then uploaded
to the page and acts as a catalyst for other school who are taking part to further their
efforts. The feedback for these days is always phenomenal and some some schools take it as
an opportunity to develop new skills such as music or or animation; others to embed some
recent learning. Any school can register, all they need to do is supply an email address for
each class teacher to Andrew prior to the day.
